Photographer, Amber Bauerle of Frosted Productions shares her latest photography, specializing in commercial, editorial and fashion photography.

Thanks for visiting my photography blog! For pricing and information go to I attempt to keep up to date on it, and have felt more motivated lately... so hopefully will be current eventually. This is a new blog since 2012, thought I would migrate my old posts over, but let's be honest, I don't think it will ever happen - so for now, enjoy my latest (and hopefully greatest). I usually write late at night, so please excuse my punctuality, sometimes I have something to say about a shoot, and other times I'm falling asleep, it's random, but at least you get to see the photos. I'm the only photographer and editor of Frosted Productions (get asked that a lot) - I will have admins help post photos, but I'm the one that always writes the posts - feel free to comment - I love to hear from others. xoxo

Frozen, Frozen, Frozen!

Children Photographer

Frozen, Elsa and Anna costumes

How could I have gotten through 2014 without doing a Frozen shoot… I mean really.  And if it weren’t for this talented costume designer, Ella Dynae I wouldn’t have shot these.  She does her costumes so tastefully and makes them exactly like what is in the movies, your imagination, whatever – she gets it.  I was really nervous to shoot “costumes” I didn’t want them to come off as cheesy – hope I pulled it off.  It was so much fun playing in this fake snow by Sno Wonder.

utah photographers | dakota

Utah Photographers

children photographer in utah

I was so excited to see Dakota again so quick after our last shoots (she had flown out to SLC for one of my editorial shoots).  I am in love with the winter outfit feel, her mom is great at styling and fashion – which always makes the shoots even better.  Behind the lens and of course in person, Dakota is just gorgeous and amazing at modeling. One of those girls that seriously doesn’t need coaching, she is so experienced and knows exactly what to do.  It’s fun because the more and more I shoot the same model, they start to understand my style and what I like as well, it goes so easy and quick, and you can end up with such amazing shots in such a short period of time.

Always love adding the fake snow effect…

Fall Leaves and in love… engagement photo session.

Utah Engagement Photographer

wedding photographers in utah | j&l

Soooo I had to split this post into two posts because, yes, there are that many photos.  I could not handle how many great photos came out of this shoot, and it’s so crazy, we just went to a field and hung out – I really try to make photo shoots feel candid and comfortable, in order to do that we do a lot of talking and get to know each other while I snap my camera – over and over and over.  When getting candid photos, you have to take TONS in order to capture that perfect moment.  It’s not uncommon that I have 1000 – 1500 photo proofs after an engagement shoot.  And can you BELIEVE these FAll Colors???  Amazing.

Again, as I mentioned in the previous engagement photography post about this couple (their black and white studio photo shoot), I did this shoot a while ago but put the photos on my site, not blog, then re-did my site, anyway – had to get them on my blog, so here they are.  Oh and here are a couple of videos I put together with their photos, I LOVE putting music to photos, it just makes you “feel” that you were there… take a look at these and comment, tell me if you like photos to music.

Utah Newborn Photographer | Reflection Perfection

Utah Newborn Photographer

Newborn Photography | Reflection Perfection

This is one of my favorite Newborn Photography sessions, ever, I can’t believe it took me so long to post it, okay I can believe it, but you know.  There is something about the clean, beautiful water, and the sweet perfection of the reflection that was so magical.  It was so beautiful while I was shooting, I actually started to cry – SO embarrassing, but I’m so passionate about my work, and to see the mother with her brand new baby in the water, I just thought was so beautiful.

This baby was SO sweet, she was perfection, not even a cry out of her the whole time, and the sweetest, cutest little smile.  After shoots like that it is hard for me to not want another baby (well after all Newborn shoots I want another baby), whenever I hold one I can hardly take the feeling I get holding a brand new baby.

Dance photography session with Witney Carson from “So You Think You Can Dance”

Dance Photography, Editorial Photographer

dance photographer, witney carson

Love this shoot – love Witney Carson, if you watch Fox’s show, So You Think You Can Dance, she made it I want to say to the top 6?  The show is amazing, Witney was amazing.  I was so lucky to work with her.  My background is dance and so I can really related to dancers and when I do shoots with them I know what the proper techniques are, and so I can literally coach them and critique them while I am taking the photos, which helps to get those perfect shots.

When we did this shoot I was super nervous that she would get hurt because the floor was super slippery and with her doing the “jumps” she was doing really stressed me out, I was thinking “what if she got hurt and had to leave the show because of my photography session with her” lol.  She kept reassuring me that she was fine.  When we did the shots where there is water on her hair, etc.  Those types of shots are actually really hard to get without the water being too much on her face or something, we kept throwing water on her over and over and she started to shiver!  But she was such a professional and wanted to keep going until I got the shots, I think I did.

Utah Family Photographer | Beautiful family in an orchard wearing formal clothes with some major sun flare and cute photos of their 19 year old son ready to leave on an LDS mission.

Utah Family Photographer

family photographers in utah, the “t” family

OK. So when it comes to Family Photography I get asked a lot about how my pricing works, what you get with my family photo sessions, etc.  Many people don’t realize the HOURS I spend on my shoots, all photographers spend different amounts of time on their shoots and photos and have different levels of experience. Many of the photos I see on the internet are not edited, or retouched, maybe a quick “contrast boost” click and that’s it, this is fine, however very different than what I do so the pricing is different.

Often most of my clients are people that have knowledge about photography, if you don’t know or can’t tell the difference between good photos and average, then you wouldn’t understand how I charge for the photos perhaps.  My family sessions are not simply going somewhere for 20 minutes and clicking a couple of photos.  This particular family ended up with a thousand proofs, BECAUSE to get TRUE candid photos, you can’t stage the photo quickly.  Sometimes the first 20-30 minutes of a shoot we are getting to know each other, laughing and I’m casually clicking my camera.  Every family is usually a little stiff and uncomfortable at first, typically the parents have just been yelling at their kids to behave in the car, etc. ;)  So it’s important to get them warmed up.

So some things to think about is not only are you paying for a photographer that has the skills to take photos from the right angles with the right lighting and exposure but also a photographer that knows how to get a family to relax and interact, it is actually pretty difficult and not everyone can do it.  Plus remember the hours that are spent afterward having an eye to choose the best photos and then editing them to perfection and then there’s Photoshop – which really differentiates photographers.  Last year I edited out a little girl’s wet jeans on 20 photos because she had a potty accident and we were not near a bathroom… :)  It’s not as easy as it looks, and no matter how good you get, it’s still time consuming.  You can’t just “color” over the jeans that are wet, you need to keep the same textures, etc.

I have thought over and over and over, talked to my husband and tried to come up with a “mini family session” or something, but what happens is it somehow just turns into a regular one, because I am still spending the time setting up my studio or driving around looking for outdoor locations, either way there is much time spent before the shoot has even happened.  And then I usually end up getting so many great shots and then well… I just can’t leave great photos unedited – I just can’t help myself.

While looking at these photos, see if you can notice the candid shots, lighting, posing variety, angles, creativity, the post editing, the brightness of their eyes, the lack of shadows all over their faces, etc.  Okay, so enough about that – I mean this is my blog, so thought it would be a good idea to educate any people out there that don’t understand the difference between photographers, pricing, etc. ;)  And there are MANY AMAZING photographers out there, I’m not saying that there aren’t.

Okay now for this family…

I love family photos in an orchard, I normally don’t like “formal” clothing for family photos, but when the mom wanted to do it I knew she could pull it off.  I want to know colors, clothing, accessories before any shoot, that is part of the consultation call that I do to give tips and help develop the location/concept, props, etc.

This family’s oldest son is getting ready to leave on an LDS Mission for 2 years and so I highlighted him and did some “mission photos” as well. For those of you reading this that don’t know much about the LDS religion, all young men at the age of 19 are encouraged to serve a 2 year mission, they fill out paperwork and then wait to hear where they will be going!

And YES, I am obsessed with sun flare.

Announcement about working with Child Model Magazine on many upcoming fashion editorials!

So excited to be shooting for CMM (Child Model Magazine)!  Here is their official announcement about working with them: CMM Announcement.  They are a children fashion magazine and I was so excited when they contacted me!  I will be in Myrtle Beach the first week of October shooting a couple of editorials on the beach for them, I will also be in Atlanta for their Top Model search.  And then three lucky models will be flown out to Utah for a shoot I am doing in March for their Cover!

They also just launched a Teen Model Magazine, and I am looking forward to being apart  of that as well!  Starting with their December issue, my photos will be featured in every single issue, ongoing.  I have 4-5 editorials coming up in the next few weeks – one is for Babiekins Fashion Magazine as well, who I also love to work with.  I am working with many amazing designers in Europe that are sending me tons of beautiful fashion to use on my shoots.  Stay tuned to see some fun photos!

A sneak peek of this gorgeous little baby… Kenzie.

Utah Newborn Photographer

baby kenzi sneak peek, utah newborn photography session

I have been wanting to do a newborn shoot using my reflection pool for some time now… and lucky me, it was setup the night before this shoot and it just all worked out perfectly.  I can’t wait to get to the rest of the photos.  This baby was incredible to work with and her mom delivered totally natural… crazy woman, I would be way too scared, but it is amazing to me that a mom would do that!  I am starting to think I should next time (according to my husband there won’t be a next time), but anyway, every baby I have ever taken photos of that has been delivered naturally has the best temperament and is so calm!  It is weird that there is that big of a difference, but there is, I don’t really know what that means exactly… just saying it’s interesting. ;)

Sneak Peek of Witney Carson’s Dance Photo-Shoot | Witney Carson from So you think you can Dance!

Here is a sneak peek of this “dance” photoshoot I did with Witney… wow – it was so amazing, everything just worked perfectly.  It seems that every time I do a photoshoot with her, everything is perfect, she is totally casual, but so stunningly beautiful… I’m so lucky to take pics of her!

She was such a trooper at the end as well because we threw water on her 10 times in a row and she was shivering (although we were inside it was still cold), but she let us keep doing it until we got the shot… and I must say, “we got the shot.”  There are so many more good ones, I can’t wait to finish editing them!

Update from Amber’s assistant on what has been going on around here!

Hi!  This is Kalen, Amber’s assistant, I will jump on here from time to time to give updates, so thought I would say a quick “hello” and let you know what has been going on around here!

Fall Family Appointments

If you are looking to do a fall family appointment, we only have a certain amount available and are already booking them all up!  Please call us today at 801.427.7490 to talk to me if you would like amazing, candid, beautiful fall photos for your Christmas cards this year….  Although Amber has so many new family pics she needs to post, here is a link to our Family Photography on our website.  And remember all of our “photography sessions” come with ALL of the digital photos, with tons artistically edited!  A typical family session depending on the location, family size, etc. (indoor/outdoor), usually you end up with 500-1000 digital photos.

We keep certain amount of “family, newborn, children, commercial” appointments available as it is so easy for Amber to become just a “family photographer” or just a “wedding photographer”… and she loves all of the different types of photography so much this is the best way for us to manage that she keeps variety.  She has been moving more and more into a higher percentage of her work being commercial shooting, for companies, clothing lines, etc. which she LOVES.  So, we could have a Newborn Appointment available in a 4 weeks but a family appointment available in 8 weeks if that makes sense.  WHATEVER it is you are looking for from teams to weddings, we will have 2012 completely booked solid very soon, so don’t wait – give us a call!  And if you are one of those that just had a baby and didn’t make an appointment prior, once in a while Amber will open up a spot on our weekly calendar to accommodate depending on her workload, so always give us a call to check, I would love to talk to you!

Blog Update

If you do follow our blog, we realize there hasn’t been much to follow lately – Amber is scrambling to get caught up with things and working into extremely “late/early” hours into the night. ;)  It is a priority to her though and so her old blog WILL start to migrate over, plus she will start posting her new content better… in the mean time, she will post pics once and a while on our Facebook page: Frosted Productions on Facebook, make sure to become a fan there if you haven’t!

Needing Little Girls All Ages for Upcoming Photoshoots

She has about a million photo-shoots coming up where she is need in little girls for clothing lines, hair accessories, shoots for companies websites, etc.  She always gives first opportunity to her fans and their children first before using a modeling agency as for “kid shoots” she believes the natural “child candid look” is so beautiful she generally doesn’t need models.  SO the benefit for our fans kids, is that you get to be apart of these amazing photoshoots and get all of the edited photos that your child is in for freeeeeeeee!!!!

Published in Children’s Fashion Magazine Summer 2012 Issue

One more thing to keep your eyes open for is the new Issue of Babiekins Magazine is set to be released any day – and yes, Amber’s work will be featured!  Wait until you see these pics….  you will be amazed from the set that was created to the extravagant hair, makeup, etc.  We have not been allowed to post any pics from the shoot yet because the magazine doesn’t let us until it’s been published.  IF you are not familiar with Babiekins Magazine , they are a children’s fashion magazine that was recently just featured in Brasil Vogue, so to have our work in it is pretty amazing.  We had clothing shipped from top brands and designers from all over Europe, including Young Versace.  Oh and did I mention that Amber had live butterflies shipped in for this?  Yes, they came on dry ice and we got to see them come to life as they landed on the little girls arms, heads, etc.  It was pretty amazing to be apart of.  The team that Amber had for this from fashion stylist to 4 hair and makeup artists, all the models, interns, assistants…. it was an insane production!  Amber, used “Productions” in our company name when she originally named it because she can do a “production”, you will know what I mean when you see the pics that are coming any day now!
